Peer Groups and Support

Physicians and other clinical team members tend to learn most effectively from peers who have either had the same or similar experiences and are able to share their knowledge with colleagues. Expert users of EHRs have the opportunity to provide guidance to colleagues as virtual mentors, particularly as users transition to more sophisticated use of their EHRs or wish to optimize specific capabilities of their systems.

EHR Peer Groups will be developed to support colleagues in the following ways:

• Networks of physician users of EHR systems who can securely communicate with one another and provide feedback on their experience with specific EHRs.
• Tips and lessons learned to achieve increased efficiency.
• Experiences with achieving and reporting on meaningful use.
• Guidance on the functional use of specific EHR systems.
• Experiences using EHRs in order to achieve enhanced clinical outcomes.
