And so it begins. Today, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services opened the registration and attestation process for the EHR Incentive Program. The CMS site has detailed user guides for eligible professionals… one for Medicare and another for Medicaid. The guides provide step-by-step instructions with screen shots of the web pages you’re likely to encounter.
It is important to review the CMS site first as it details what you will need in order to register — which includes (among other things) your National Provider Identifier (NPI), an enrollment record in the Provider Enrollment, Chain and Ownership System (PECOS ), and the username/password combo used to access the National Plan and Provider Enumeration System — which according to the CMS site should be the same combo used for PECOS. If you are only enrolling in the Medicaid incentive program, you do not need the PECOS enrollment record. Of course, have your taxpayer ID ready.
